Foundational Verses & Quotes for JHOP Boston

Foundational verses:

"...these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." - Isaiah 56:7

"It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a 'den of robbers.' " - Matthew 21:13 - Mark 11:17 - Luke 19:46

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. - 1 Timothy 2

Before the pouring out of the Spirit passage in Joel, there is a preceding repentance - "Return to the Lord":

JOEL 2
Rend Your Heart
 12 "Even now," declares the LORD,
       "return to me with all your heart,
       with fasting and weeping and mourning."

 13 Rend your heart
       and not your garments.
       Return to the LORD your God,
       for he is gracious and compassionate,
       slow to anger and abounding in love,
       and he relents from sending calamity.

 14 Who knows? He may turn and have pity
       and leave behind a blessing—
       grain offerings and drink offerings
       for the LORD your God.

 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
       declare a holy fast,
       call a sacred assembly.

 16 Gather the people,
       consecrate the assembly;
       bring together the elders,
       gather the children,
       those nursing at the breast.
       Let the bridegroom leave his room
       and the bride her chamber.

 17 Let the priests, who minister before the LORD,
       weep between the temple porch and the altar.
       Let them say, "Spare your people, O LORD.
       Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,
       a byword among the nations.
       Why should they say among the peoples,
       'Where is their God?' "

The LORD's Answer
 18 Then the LORD will be jealous for his land
       and take pity on his people.

 19 The LORD will reply [a] to them:
       "I am sending you grain, new wine and oil,
       enough to satisfy you fully;
       never again will I make you
       an object of scorn to the nations.

 20 "I will drive the northern army far from you,
       pushing it into a parched and barren land,
       with its front columns going into the eastern sea [b]
       and those in the rear into the western sea. [c]
       And its stench will go up;
       its smell will rise."
       Surely he has done great things. [d]

 21 Be not afraid, O land;
       be glad and rejoice.
       Surely the LORD has done great things.

 22 Be not afraid, O wild animals,
       for the open pastures are becoming green.
       The trees are bearing their fruit;
       the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.

 23 Be glad, O people of Zion,
       rejoice in the LORD your God,
       for he has given you
       the autumn rains in righteousness. [e]
       He sends you abundant showers,
       both autumn and spring rains, as before.

 24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
       the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.

 25 "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
       the great locust and the young locust,
       the other locusts and the locust swarm [f]
       my great army that I sent among you.

 26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
       and you will praise the name of the LORD your God,
       who has worked wonders for you;
       never again will my people be shamed.

 27 Then you will know that I am in Israel,
       that I am the LORD your God,
       and that there is no other;
       never again will my people be shamed.

The Day of the LORD
 28 "And afterward,
       I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
       Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
       your old men will dream dreams,
       your young men will see visions.

 29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
       I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Jeremiah 33 - Promise of Restoration

3 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'

6 " 'Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. 7 I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity [b] and will rebuild them as they were before. 8 I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. 9 Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.'

Foundational quotes:

We are: "A house of prayer that contends with every other house that challenges the lordship and supremacy of Christ over all affairs."

Prayer targets: Harvard, the gates of government, the homosexual agenda, abortion

Why Boston?

Boston is the Jericho of the United States, and the Lord says that when I cause the walls of intellectualism to come tumbling down, then I shall pour out my Spirit upon this whole land.
Derek Prince, 1972

I believe that now is Boston's time to raise up a house of prayer to contend for her destiny of another Great Awakening and to close the door to humanism and false ideologies that have come through Harvard and the universities of New England. Harvard is the flashpoint to take our stand for every campus across America. Let's dig the wells of revival in Boston.

We have taught our students to feast and play. Now let's teach them to fast and pray.

We are commanded to remember the works of God of the past, even as we seek for a move of God beyond anything that has happened before. God does not forget his covenants with us, even if we do. For this reason, we ask God to restore the Christian heritage of Boston, Harvard and New England.
